What can I do?
Climate Action Ilkley was set up for people who want to do something about the climate crisis.
You can:
- attend events
- campaign for sustainable living
- share what works with others
- join one of our workgroups in an area that interests you
Small Changes
Some lifestyle changes can be quite small:-
- eat and drink sustainably
- walk or cycle more
- reduce your consumption of stuff
- reuse and recycle to drastically reduce waste and pollution
and it helps to hear how others are doing this
Small changes can lead to bigger ones…
Big Changes
Our workgroups have been set up to help people with these bigger changes.
- Change the way you heat and insulate your home – Energy Workgroup
- Install solar panels – Energy Workgroup
- Change the way you travel for work and leisure – Mobility Workgroup
- Change to a healthy diet with high levels of local food and vegetable protein based on sustainable farming- Sustainable Food Workgroup
Many big changes can be done by individuals and families. Some can achieved be working with others in the community (e.g. protecting and restoring land; creating a community energy company)
What some of our members have done
Recently retired wife and mother
‘The biggest thing I’ve learned about climate change is the detail doesn’t matter. If we want to save our planet and our own futures we’ve all got to consume less stuff, a lot less. That stuff includes food, fuel, clothes and household goods. I’m not doing it all at once, I started with things I personally found easy to reduce: eating meat, flying, impulse buying and road miles’.
